Paola Parafioriti (sometimes only Fioriti; c.1746 – 1821-08-16)⟮1⟯Death of Paola, 1821; she is said to be a widow aged 75. Portale Antenati was my 5th-great-grandmother and the gateway to my only Italian ancestors found to have originated outside of San Fratello. She was born in Tortorici, Messina, Sicily, the daughter of Giuseppe Parafioriti and Maria Triscari, and married Pietro Cracò, who predeceased her.⟮1⟯Death of Paola, 1821; she is said to be a widow aged 75. Portale Antenati
I am descended from this couple through their daughter Rosa, wife of Benedetto Latteri. This couple’s son Salvatore was the father of Filadelfio Latteri.
The surname Cracò is common in San Fratello but not found in Tortorici, so Pietro likely was native to San Fratello. I have not determined whether either or both of Paola’s parents also moved to San Fratello, nor where the couple married. All death records of their children show them born in San Fratello.
Children
In each case, the birth date is estimated from recorded ages. However, several of the ages are round numbers, so they may be rough approximations, and indeed at least one is wildly off. These children of Pietro and Paola were found, all stated to have been born and died in San Fratello:
- Giuseppe Cracò (c.1774 – 1844-06-28), died aged 70 unmarried.⟮2⟯Portale Antenati The record does not name a mother, only noting that she is deceased, but there seems to be no other father Pietro around this time.
- Maria Cracò (c.1777 – 1831-06-10), died aged 53 survived by husband Antonino Latteri.⟮3⟯Portale Antenati
- Rosa Cracò (1779 – 1854-05-25⟮4⟯Portale Antenati⟮5⟯Rosa’s father’s name is recorded as Pietano, which appears to simply be an error for Pietro.), my 4th-great-grandmother, through her marriage to Benedetto Latteri. Her mother is called Paola Cracò on her death record; presumably her surname was unknown and her husband’s was substituted. The record says she died aged 90, but this is clearly a large overestimate. She was aged 43 when her daughter Grazia was born on 1822-12-01⟮6⟯Portale Antenati, but was said to be 24 when her daughter Maria was born on 1820-10-24⟮7⟯Portale Antenati; the latter seems improbably young, and maybe it was really 42. This places her birth in likely 1779.
- Nicolo Cracò (c.1781 – 1827-03-12), died aged 46 survived by wife Benedetta Mondello.⟮8⟯Portale Antenati
- Benedetta Cracò (c.1791 – 1861-08-12), died aged 70 a widow.⟮9⟯Portale Antenati Her mother is not named, nor is her husband. Her husband may have been Carmelo Emmanuele, whose widow was named Benedetta Cracò and is roughly of the right age (with allowance for errors), said to be aged 40 at death on 1837-06-29.⟮10⟯Portale Antenati
- Teresa Cracò (c.1792 – 1847-08-28), died aged 50 survived by husband Cirino Lo Cicero.⟮11⟯Portale Antenati Her mother is hard to read but plausibly Paola Fioriti. She is said to be aged 30 at the her birth of her daughter Maria Grazia on 1821-11-30⟮12⟯Portale Antenati and 36 at her birth of her daughter Benedetta on 1830-06-25⟮13⟯Portale Antenati, which yield varying estimates.
- Antonino Cracò (* c.1794), said to be aged 40 when he married Veronica Mancuso on 1835-01-29.⟮14⟯Portale Antenati
Unless otherwise stated, the child’s mother is listed as Paola Fioriti. None of these records have the form Parafioriti.
The distribution of children’s births is a bit odd, with a large gap between Nicolo and Benedetta, and Paola would be having children at nearly 50 by these estimates. However, allowances for considerable error in reported ages could account for this, and there may be children unrecorded, for example because they died young.
