William Stanton Leuty (c.1778 – 1829-01-07) and Mary Roddye (1796-01-08 – 1879-12-09) were my 4th-great-grandparents, being the parents of Sidnah Ladd. They married in Jefferson County, Tennessee on 1813-04-10, but lived most of their lives in Rhea County.
William was born in Cuba, the son of Thomas William Leuty and Hannah Stanton. Thomas was a plantation owner there. There are many websites with stories about his family, such as Find a Graveref. I have not yet tried to verify or cross-reference most of this information. As I understand, efforts to locate the Leuty family in England have not been successful. William eventually settled in Rhea County
Mary was the daughter of Col. James Roddye and Lydia Russell. She was also known as Polly, a common nickname for Mary.
William and Mary had seven known children, all born in Rhea County:
Mary outlived her husband by over half a century but never remarried.
I have several DNA matches that descend from this couple, and three specifically from William’s father by two of his other wives.
One of the latter matches was surnamed Leuty, with a male-line descent from William. He was tested as Y haplogroup R1b-L238, which implies this is the haplogroup for the whole Leuty family. He has since deleted his account but I still have my notes for him. There do not appear to be any other public testees, so this is all we have.
