Robert Martin (1852-08-28 – 1932-01-09) was my great-great-grandfather, being the father of Martha Martin. Born in Dracut, Massachusetts to Irish immigrant parents Thomas Martin and Margaret Jane Gelray, he married immigrant Catherine Riley on 1876-07-31 in Medford, where he died.

Career

On several censuses people were asked to report their occupation. He sometimes said “laborer”, but also more specifically “stone mason”⁠^{⟮1⟯FamilySearch}. For his employer, he reported the city of Medford, or some variation (such as “city dept.”).

Children

He had five known children, all born in Medford, Massachusetts:

• Thomas Henry Martin (1877-10-02 – after 1930); he is in the 1930 census unmarried; I can find no further record.
• Robert Martin Jr. (1879-02-06 – 1933); he married Catherine Carr and had at least 5 children, including Mary Duffy.
• Eva Genevieve Martin (1881-03-16 – 1963-03-27); she married first James Frank Hazelton and second Felix Antone Schindler, and had 4 children all with James, who however all died in infancy except for Martha Hazelton.
• Margaret J. (Jane?) Martin (1882-10-14 – before 1900).
• Martha Martin (1884-02-05 – 1977-07-17), my great-grandmother.

Ancestry

His ancestry is not known beyond the grandparents.
