Martha Huntington (née Martin) (1884-02-05 – 1977-07-17), family nickname Gammy or Gammie, was my matrilineal great-grandmother, being the mother of my grandmother Genevieve Huntington. She was the third child and eldest daughter of Robert Martin and Catherine Riley. She is of Irish descent, her father’s ancestors from the Armagh area, and her mother’s from County Cork.
She was my only great-grandparent to survive into my lifetime, although Mary Fleming died after I was conceived.
Birthday
According to family tradition, she was born just after midnight, and thus her birthday was formally recorded as Feb 6. However, her family considered it to be Feb 5, and that was the date she used throughout her life.
Family
She married Robert Huntington on 1903-11-01. They had four children:
- Hubert Samuel (1904-08-17 – 1980-10-25).
- Robert John “Bobby” (1906-05-24 – 1910-01-07).
- Genevieve (1915-05-22 – 2004-07-24), my grandmother.
- Martha Roberta (1920-05-21 – 2008-11-13).
