Martha Graves (née Hazelton) (1905-10-21 – 1997-08-30) was the niece of Martha Martin and thus my first cousin, twice removed. She is the only daughter of Eva Genevieve (née) Martin, the only other daughter of Robert Martin and Catherine Riley to have had children; and is thus the progenitor of my closest female-line relations beyond my maternal aunts. Martha and her female-line descendants thus are in mitochondrial haplogroup H1c8.

Family

She had three brothers (James, no name recorded, and Albert) who died in infancy, all four being children of Eva's first wife James Frank Hazelton. Martha was born in Mystic, Connecticut, but lived most of her life and died in Rhode Island.

Martha married Joseph Sawyer Graves (1894-10-09 – 1968-02-20), and had three children, all daughters born in Rhode Island, with 12 grandchildren:

• Gloria Maria (1930-07-16 – 2017-01-17), who married Peter Varola (1927–1990), with two sons and three daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.^ref ref
• Martha H. (Hazelton?) (1939-02-02 – 2014-03-05), who married Frank G. Silva Jr. (*1938), with three sons and two daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.^ref
• Maureen (1942-10-17 – 2002-05-29), who married Manuel Aguiar (1938–2009), with two daughters Lori and Kimberly, both deceased, at least one grandchild, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Kimberly died 2021-07-19.^ref

Martha is buried in East Providence, Rhode Island.
