John Huntington (1801–01-11 – 1883×4-04-20) and Ruth Martell (1808-07-06 – 1900-03-20) were my great-great-great-grandparents, being the parents of Caleb Adolphus Huntington. John was the son of (another) Caleb Huntington and moved to Cape Breton from Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Ruth was the daughter of Anthony and Lucinda Martell and native to Cape Breton.
Sources vary as to whether John’s year of death is 1883⟮1⟯ ⟮2⟯ or 1884⟮3⟯⟮4⟯. The latter looks slightly more credible but it’s hard to say.
Family
John and Ruth married 1832-07-08 in Sydney, Cape Breton⟮5⟯, and had nine children, all born in Grand Mira:⟮4⟯

- Frederick Augustus (1835-02-28 – 1876-11-22)⟮6⟯, married Sarah Martell.
- Jane Caroline (1837-02-20 – 1862-07-16)⟮7⟯, married Albert S. Lamson.
- Mary Ann (1839-02-11 – 1922-11-03), married Thomas Armstrong.
- Joseph Dimock (1841-09-18 – 1914-07-01), married Sarah Alexandra Lovitt.
- Lucinda Maria (1843-12-06 – 1925-12-17)⟮8⟯, married Angus William McLean.
- Henrietta Haseltine (1845-12-25×26 – 1869-08-03), unmarried.
- Susan Helena (1848-03-11 – 1911-12-02), married William Young Spencer.
- Herbert Seymour (1850-03-17 – 1919-08-16), married Euphemia “Effie” Morrison.
DNA
There are several DNA matches to both my mother and maternal aunt through both Frederick and Herbert.
Frederick’s wife Sarah Martell was his second cousin, so DNA may have come down from Charles and Ann, parents of Anthony Martell, through either of them.
