John in 1908

John Stanton McPherson Sr. (1875-05-23 – 1950-04-05), family nickname Pappy or Love Pappy, was my patrimaternal great-grandfather, being the father of John McPherson Jr., my grandfather. He married Martha Jane Fisher on 1908-12-30. He was born and lived his whole life in Rhea County, Tennessee. He was the son of Joel McPherson and Hannah Ladd.

Family

John and Martha had ten children, all born in Rhea County, Tennessee, with 22 grandchildren:

  • Mary Janis “Jan” Griffin (* 1946-07-20), married and divorced, secondly married Ralph Eugene “Gene” Bohannon Jr.
  • Judith Kay Griffin (* 1948-01-20).
  • James Carlton Griffin (* 1949-10-03), married Brenda Gail McCarty.
• Richard Addison (1915-08-05 – 1917-02-02), died aged 17 months.
• Helen Rebecca (1917-03-19 – 2006-07-11 or -10)^⟮4⟯, married Lawrence Jay “Bud” Levengood (1917–2007)^⟮5⟯ on 1942-03-27, with three children:
  • Elaine Karen Levengood (* 1945-08-08), married Philip Gene Schoner, divorced.

• Herbert Thomas (1919-03-08 – 2003-11-01), married first Betty S. (*c.1922), divorced, second Erna Maria Geissinger (1935–2016)^⟮7⟯ on 1958-12-19^⟮8⟯ in Germany, with three children:
  • Karin Francizka McPherson (* 1958-06-23 in Regensburg, Germany), married first James Robert Kirst, apparently divorced, second Kenneth James Strunk.
