Jean Le Riche (say 1580 – ⊥ 1619-09-18) and Jeanne Valpy (say 1585 – ⊥ 1652-12-22)⟮1⟯There is a burial on the 19th of a Jeanne widow of Jean Le Riche, and on the 22nd of a Jeanne Vallepie widow of Jean Le Riche; Jerripedia, Ancestry$/Lib. It would be a strange coincidence if two different such people were buried three days apart. It seems more likely this is some kind of duplication: perhaps a copying error, or a reburial, or a second burial ceremony. Whatever the case, this should not affect the genealogy herein. were the parents of Elie Le Riche, making Jean my suspected male-line ancestor. The name Valpy had spelling variants such as Vallepy and Vallepie. As far as I have found, they lived their whole lives in Trinity, Jersey. Three children are known.
Research by Rosemary Hampton⟮2⟯ identifies Jean’s parents as Regnauld and Thomasse Le Riche. Thomasse was a female name in Jersey in this time period. I have found documents naming Jean’s father as Renault and other spelling variants, and some which appear to name his mother but are difficult to read. I am still looking into this.
Jean was alive in 1619-05-22 when he appears in a land transaction⟮3⟯FamilySearch and had died by 1619-11-13 when Jeanne is called widow of Jean Le Riche⟮4⟯FamilySearch. Thus the 1619-09-18 burial of “Jean Le Riche des Augrez" in Trinity⟮5⟯Jerripeda, Ancestry$/Lib appears to be him. Les Augrez was a neighborhood of Trinity, which I surmise is the meaning of that extra specifier. Jean and his wife (though no mention of children) appear as residents of Les Augrez in a 1613 census of Trinity.⟮6⟯
