Hubert Frederick Huntington (1868-04-19 – 1942-08-14) was my great-great-uncle, the brother of Robert Huntington, and thus son of Caleb and Emily Huntington, and the only of the siblings besides Robert to leave Canada for America. He is notable to me because my Aunt Martha had said that Robert had a brother named Hubert (and also he named a son Hubert), and so, although most stories about Robert’s early life proved wrong, it is plausible that this was the Hubert referred to.
Hubert was born in Grand Mira, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and is recorded in Nova Scotia for the 1891 census, age 22, but emigrated at a young age. He is recorded as being “of” Central City, South Dakota in 1891. He married Frances Jane Cook (1882-11-22 – 1958-06-21) on 1902-11-25 in Salmon, Idaho. Frances was from Wibaux, Montana. In 1920 they were living in Arizona, in 1930 in Redlands, California, and in 1940 in Riverside, California. Hubert died in Los Angeles County, California aged 74. Frances died in Alameda County, California aged 75.ref
American census records wrongly record him as having been born in Massachusetts or Vermont. It may be that, like his brother Robert, he for some reason concealed his Canadian heritage.
He had five known children by Frances:
I cannot find record of grandchildren other than the youngest Hubert noted, nor any great-grandchildren at all.
