Antonino Latteri (1861-10-14 – 1960-05-12) and Giuseppa Latteri (1870-09-08 – 1959-05-11), later Anglicizing their names as Anthony and Josephine, were my matripaternal great-grandparents, being the parents of Betty Latteri.
They married 1890-09-25 in San Fratello, Messina, Sicily, Italy, where they were born, and immigrated to America on the Campania, embarking 1909-03-31 and arriving 1909-04-16. I was once told by my father that Anthony had made a previous trip to America, but I have not found records of it.
Family
Anthony was the son of Benedetto Latteri and Maria Teresa Marino. Josephine was the daughter of Filadelfio Latteri and Benedetta Todaro.
Despite sharing a surname (Latteri being Josephine’s maiden name), I have not found a relationship between them.
They had six children, all but the last born in San Fratello:
- Benedetto (1891-09-05 – 1892-11-11), died aged 14 months in San Fratello. His name was reused.
- Teresa (1893-09-13 – 1914-06-13), died in New York unmarried age 20.
- Benedetto, later Benedict or Bennie (1896-11-04 – 1984-11-25), naturalized 1919-11-13ref. He married Rosalia Mancuso, with descendants.
- Filadelfio, later Fred A. (1899-11-22 – 1992-02-25), naturalized 1923-09-01ref. He never married.
- Benedetta, later Betty Ann (1908-12-04 – 1980-09-15), my grandmother.
- Marie (1911-11-11 – 2005-02-04), unmarried. She was born in New York City.
